Camping Honeymoon in Tahiti

Backpacking thrills on a true eco-adventure

If you're looking for a true adventure and the comforts and luxuries of a resort aren't necessary for you or your partner, try a camping trip in the exotic Tahitian islands.

All of the islands offer some sort of camping experience with varying degrees of accomodatons. Also, tour companies based in the U.S. and Tahiti sponsor different trips and eco-tours that offer everything from camping on a private island to kayaking and snorkeling. Backpacking and hiking are most popular on these excursions. Coxandkings and Explorerscorner are a couple of companies that offer adventure / camping / ecology tours.

Cost wise, camping space usually runs about 1.200 CFP per person per day on Tahiti(a cheap honeymoon by any standards in the Society Islands). You'll still need to use the local transportation to get to your campgrounds unless otherwise provided by a tour company or renting a car. Most camp grounds are near a village and a local Le truck stop.

Tahiti's other islands provide unique camping and backpacking experiences for a fun-filled couples adventure. Moorea offers several campground locations for honeymooners. They can be found in the villages of Papetoai, Haapiti, and Maharepa and all have facilities and spaces for tents. Some sites have fares or rooms availbable if you need a break from your tent. Most showers are cold-water while bathrooms and kitchen facilities are shared if needed. Most have access to the Moorea beaches for marine exploration.

On Huahine, honeymoon campers can try Ariiura campground in Parea village which offers cabins with shared facilities. They have a white sand beach and offer hiking tours.

Raiatea has Peters Place which is located on the mountain well above the lagoon below. The grounds contain a very basic eight room fare and spaces for tent camping.

For camping on Bora Bora try Chez Henriette. The accomodations are basic and there's no beach, but tours are available.

If you're a honeymoon couple seeking true adventure and flying by the seat of your pants is appealing, a camping vacation in Tahiti might be just right for you !!
